'Good Judicial Infrastructure An Afterthought': CJI Ramana Raises Concerns In Presence Of Law Minister

During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Justice Ramana raised various concerns regarding the judicial infrastructure in the country.

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India NV Ramana along with Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday inaugurated the Annexe building of Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court.

"Good judicial infrastructure for courts has always been an afterthought. It is because of the mindset that courts in India operate from dilapidated structures making it difficult to perform judicial functions," Chief Justice Ramana said, as quoted by ANI.

"Courts are extremely essential for any society. People’s faith in the judiciary is the biggest strength of democracy. Courts assure guarantee to the constitutional right to justice," he further added.

He urged the Union Law Minister to expedite the proposal for establishing the National Judicial Infrastructure Authority to be taken up in the upcoming session of the Parliament.

"I have sent a proposal for the establishment of the National Judicial Infrastructure Authority to the Minister of Law and Justice. I urge the Minister to expedite the proposal to be taken up in the upcoming session of the Parliament," the Chief Justice said.

On the other hand, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasised that Judiciary is not only being given full support but also being given space to become robust.

"Judiciary isn't only being given full support but also they're being given space to become robust. To make our democracy successful, a robust judiciary is of utmost importance," Union Law Minister Rijiju said, as quoted by ANI.

During the ceremony, Rijiju announced that he will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir on October 29, 2021, to understand and oversee how legal aid is being made available to those in the border areas.
