Two women thrashed in Mandsaur for allegedly carrying beef

BHOPAL: Two women were roughed up by a crowd led by 'Gau Rakshaks' at Mandsaur railway station for allegedly carrying beef in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. A video of the incident shows a crowd cornering the women before verbally abusing and beating them. The police tried to stop the crowd, but were outnumbered. According to sources, 30 kg of meat has been recovered from them and investigation revealed that the meat was of buffalo, not cows. The Congress party on Wednesday cornered BJP over Mandsaur issue in Rajya Sabha, as the leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “Cow protection must prevail but the Dalit’s and Muslims must not be targeted in the name of protection of cow.” Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupender Singh on said that action would be initiated against those who have attempted to take the law in their hands. "Two women were arrested yesterday. The veterinary report stated that prima facie it was found to be buffalo meat. No one should take the law in their hands. If report comes from the women, we will take action against those who have tried to take the law in their hands," Singh said. The shocking incident comes just two weeks after the controversy surrounding the flogging of a Dalit family by gau rakshaks for skinning a dead cow in Una, Gujarat. (With inputs from ANI)
