'This Is A Festival Of Happiness & Joy': President Droupadi Murmu Greets Nation Ahead Of Diwali

"Diwali is a festival of happiness and joy. On the day of Diwali, people worship Goddess Lakshmi in their homes and pray for everyone's happiness and prosperity," President Droupadi Murmu said.

The holiday of Diwali is an opportunity to further enhance the spirit of comradery and harmony, President Droupadi Murmu stated in a message to the populace, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on Sunday, news agency PTI reported.

"Diwali is a festival of happiness and joy. On the day of Diwali, people worship Goddess Lakshmi in their homes and pray for everyone's happiness and prosperity," she was quoted by PTI in its report.

The president stated that the Diwali celebration is an opportunity to further promote the spirit of harmony and collaboration among people.

She stated in her message on the eve of Diwali that the light of Diwali represents the wisdom that dispels all the darkness of our inner and outer ignorance.

"On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all the fellow citizens living in India and abroad," Murmu said.

"May energy and light spread in our lives like a Diya," she said.

"May the spirit of helping the underprivileged grow deep in the minds of people and let us all continue our tradition of 'Subh' and 'Labh'," the statement quoting the president said.

The festival of lights known as Diwali is widely observed throughout the nation. This festival is infused with a wide variety of traditions and rituals. Goddess Lakshmi is the main deity worshipped throughout this festival.

Known as the festival of lights, this festival is celebrated by lighting diyas and candles. Homes are also decorated with colourful Chinese lights and there is a Rangoli drawn to welcome Goddess Laxmi.

According to Hindu belief, a total of 13 diyas are supposed to be lit during Diwali at different corners of our homes.

Significance Of Lighting Diyas During Diwali

  • Diyas are meant to protect against bad spirits and negative energies and symbolise kindness and purity.
  • A diya's flame is continually burning upward with the goal of learning things that will lead us to greater ideals.
  • A diya symbolises wisdom over ignorance and the triumph of virtue over evil. It disseminates goodness and optimism.
  • Considering that they bring success and wealth into our life, diyas are lit in the front of homes.
