Terrorist Hideout Busted, Heavy Arms And Ammunition Seized In J&K's Poonch By Security Forces

Jammu And Kashmir: Security forces busted a terrorist shelter and recovered a huge number of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Monday, officials said. This comes a day after an infiltration bid from the Line of Control (LoC) was foiled by a joint operation of the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday, November 9 in Machil sector of the Union Territory. Three terrorists were gunned down, while an officer of the Indian Army and three soldiers, including a BSF constable, were martyred in the encounter. Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Ramesh Angral said. During the search, he said, a huge bag carrying arms and ammunition and hidden under boulders near the Line of Control was found. The arms and ammunition included four AK-56 rifles, 4 AK magazines, 141 AK rounds, two AGL grenades, two hand-grenades, diaries, one camel bag besides AK accessories, and one rucksack, Mr  Angral added. He said the initial investigation revealed that the consignment was to be smuggled into the Kashmir Valley for Lashkar-e Taiba terrorists. An FIR was registered in police station Poonch in this regard, he said, adding further probe is underway. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Manish Sharma, and the 10 Assam Rifles. Senior intelligence and security force officials on the infiltrations bid of Mahil said that the infiltration attempts are likely to increase before the mountain passes in J&K get closed by heavy winter snow after which chances of crossing into the Valley become minimal.
