KCR Urges PM Modi To Pass Women Reservation Bill In Parliament, Seeks 33% Quota For OBCs
CM Rao in a letter to PM Modi stated that the state government is implementing 30% reservation for women in public employment and admissions in educational institutions, ANI reported.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a letter on Friday to enact the women's reservation bill during the special session of Parliament commencing on September 18, news agency PTI reported. In a separate letter to the Prime Minister, Rao, the head of the governing BRS, asked the Centre to begin the requisite legislative procedure to provide a 33% quota for OBCs in Parliament and state legislatures.

"However, suitable representation in Parliament and State Legislatures is required in a democratic polity to reflect hopes and aspirations of the marginalized sections of the society. Realising this critical need, Telangana State Legislature has passed an unanimous Resolution on 14.06.2014 requesting the Government of India to provide for 33% reservations for Women in Parliament and State Legislatures. However, Government of India has not initiated any action on this front so far," the letter reads, ANI reported.

An official announcement stated that a gathering of the BRS parliamentary party here, presided over by KCR, voted a unanimous resolution to that effect. "BRS Parliamentary Party, in its meeting held on 15.9.2023, passed a Resolution demanding for providing 33% reservation for Women in Parliament and State Legislatures," the letter further reads.
