The Times of India reported that the accused, identified as Anuj Chetan Katheria of Shahjahanpur, was planning to get married for the sixth time before he was arrested by the Kidwai Nagar police.
The man is a native of Shahjahanpur and a case has been registered against him under sections 420(cheating), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.
How did the man honeytrap women?
According to the complaint registered by the UP police, the man first married a woman from Mainpuri district in the year 2005. A divorce case is going on. In 2010, Anuj married a woman from Bareilly district, who also reportedly filed for a divorce.
In 2014, the self-proclaimed tantrik tied the knot with a woman in Auraiya. Then he married his third wife's cousin, who allegedly died by suicide after she learnt the truth of his honey trap scandal.
Anuj's fifth prey was in 2019 as he married a woman in Kanpur. Shortly after their wedding, Katheria allegedly started harassing her, following which a case was registered against him.
The TOI report also revealed that he forcibly had unnatural sex with her besides indulging in other unnatural acts. The woman alleged that he also tried to kill her.
The police said that Anuj Katheria approached women by the name ‘Lucky Pandey’ on a marriage website. The man used to introduce himself as a government teacher or a businessman, a tantric, or a cleric. Katheria would sometimes tell women he met on the portal that he was a BSc graduate, police said.
The police found that after establishing contact with women on the marriage site, he would call some to an ashram where he performed "tantra-mantra".
