Submit details of bank account transactions between Nov 8-Dec 31 to Amit Shah: PM to BJP MPs and MLAs

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday has asked BJP MPs and MLAs to submit details of their bank account transactions between November 8 & December 31 to party President Amit Shah. Modi's instructions to party members came during the Parliamentary Board meeting this morning. If required the transaction details will be made public or uploaded on party website, said Sources. This comes at a time when the Opposition is alleging that the demonetisation decision had helped BJP leaders to buy property by converting their black money through various means. Terming demonetisation as the "biggest scam", Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also had accused Modi of leaking the demonetisation move to top BJP leaders, alleging they bought land using their black money. In this regard, AAP leader Ashutosh, in his tweet, demanded BJP leaders to submit details of their account six months prior to demonetisation. The Prime Minister announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on November 8 and December 30 is the deadline for submitting the banned notes to banks. In an apparent response to the charge that the bill to amend IT Act will help turn black money into white, the Prime Minister said the amended Act will channel the money looted from the poor for their welfare. The amended Act, he said, is a programme for the poor's welfare from Lok Kalyan Marg, the new name of the road where the Prime Minister's residence is located. "The amendment is not for turning black money into white but to spend the money looted from the poor on their welfare," he said. Quoting Modi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters that the bill is part of his government's fight against blackmoney. Modi also sought support from everyone to make India a digital and cashless economy. "The Prime Minister wants to make the country a cashless society and sought everyone's support," the minister said. At the meeting, Amit Shah told party MPs to motivate traders in panchayats, municipalities and other local bodies falling in their constituency to shift to cashless transactions. Asked about impasse in Parliament over demonetisation, Kumar said the government has been ready for discussion from the day one of the Winter session and Modi will also intervene in both the House if the opposition wanted. The opposition wants discussion under Rule 56 which entails voting, a condition unacceptable to the government. (With agency inputs)
