Security Forces Arrest LeT Militant From Jammu And Kashmir's Baramulla District

Security forces arrested a militant associate of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) from Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The militant Identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir is a resident of Laridoora Chandoosa, said a police spokesperson, as reported by PTI. Security forces had information about movement of militants in Nagbal village in the north Kashmir district's Chandoosa area which prompted them to place a mobile vehicle checkpoint (MVCP) at the Shranz Crossing Nagbal. Mir was coming from Shranz towards Nagbal and tried to flee after seeing security personnel, but was apprehended tactfully, said the police.
Authorities said a grenade was seized from him and he was taken into custody immediately.
Officials have also confirmed that Mir is a surrendered terrorist and a case under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was registered against him. Investigation is currently underway.
In a separate incident, an encounter broke out on May 14 between militants and security forces in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The security forces had launched a search and cordon operation in Andwan Sagam area in the district following information about the presence of militants there, a police officer said.
The operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire at the security forces, reported news agency PTI.
In a similar incident two terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla and Rajouri on May 6, a day after five Indian soldiers died in a similar face-off in Rajouri.
One terrorist, linked with LeT, was killed by the security forces in Baramulla and another in Rajouri. As per the statement of the Indian Army, another terrorist was most likely injured in Rajouri.
Indian Army during that time said that arms and ammunition were recovered from the area that included one AK56, four Mags of AK, 56 rounds of AK, a 1x9mm Pistol with Mag, three grenades and one ammunition pouch.
The Kashmir Zone Police said that the killed terrorist in Baramulla were later identified as Abid Wani, a resident of Yarhol Babapora Kulgam, linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT. They added that incriminating materials, including one AK 47 rifle, were also recovered.
