SC Allows Abbas Ansari To Attend ‘Fatiha’ Ceremony Of Deceased Father Mukhtar Ansari

The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed jailed Abbas Ansari to attend the ‘Fatiha’ ceremony of his deceased father Mukhtar Ansari. The top court held that there was no reason to deny him attendance of the ritual scheduled for tomorrow. The court further directed the police to allow Ansari to meet his family on April 11 and 12.

While pronouncing the verdict, the court said that the Police authorities must frisk visitors and ensure no weapons are carried at the venue.

The bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice KV Viswanathan directed the police to take Ansari from Kasganj jail to his hometown in police custody and with adequate security. The court said that the state authorities should ensure petitioner starts his journey before 5 PM today (April 9).

"Even if there are no rituals after April 10, petitioner be allowed to meet his family on April 11 and 12. Police authorities to frisk visitors and ensure no weapons are carried," the court said.

The court noted that Ansari could not attend his father's funeral rites as he was in judicial custody and allowed him to attend the special prayers on April 10.

on March 28, Mukhtar Ansari passed away after sufferinga cardiac arrest at a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh.

His son, Abbas Ansari could not attend his funeral as he was in judicial custody in connection with a criminal case. He had approached the top court seeking permission to participate in his father's 'fatiha' or special ceremony.
