Republic Day 2023: 23 Tableaux To Roll Down Kartavya Path During Parade, NCB To Debut

According to sources, the Indian Railways tableau was "rejected," and it was constructed around the Vande Bharat Express train.

On January 26, during the Republic Day celebrations, vibrant tableaux from Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gujarat, West Bengal, and several other states and Union Territories will travel down the renovated Kartavya Path. The majority of the floats will have "Nari Shakti" as their theme, news agency PTI reported.

The ceremonial procession will feature a total of 23 tableaux—17 from states and union territories, and six from other ministries and departments—depicting India's unique cultural history, economic development, and social advancement, Defence Ministry officials announced on Sunday.

When asked if the Ministry of Railways will have a tableau, he replied, "No, there will be no tableau from the ministry in this year's parade." According to sources, the Indian Railways tableau was "rejected," and it was constructed around the Vande Bharat Express train.

The Ministry of Home Affairs will exhibit two tableaux, one each by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and one each by the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Culture, and the Central Public Works Department, which falls under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, a senior official told reporters here.

"Twenty-three tableaux - 17 from States/Union Territories and six from various Ministries/Departments, depicting the nation's rich cultural heritage, economic progress and strong internal and external security will roll down the Kartavya Path during the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2023," the Ministry of Defence said.

The theme chosen by several states this year is mostly 'Nari Shakti,' along with cultural heritage and other themes, according to the official. The West Bengal tableau represents Durga Puja in Kolkata and commemorates its inclusion on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Assam's tableau proudly displays the renowned Ahom General Lachit Borphukan as well as cultural icons such as the famed Kamakhya Temple.

Last year, the federal government commemorated the 400th birth anniversary of the Ahom General. Borphukan was a commander in the former Ahom kingdom and is most remembered for his leadership in the 1671 battle of Saraighat, which prevented Mughal armies from capturing Assam.

This will be the first Republic Day celebration held on Rajpath since it was renamed 'Kartavya Path' last year. On Monday, there will be a complete parade dress rehearsal.

The 74th Republic Day celebrations will take place on the rebuilt Central Vista Boulevard, and the government has put 32,000 tickets on sale online for the general public, according to defence ministry officials.
