Rajya Sabha concerned over Blue Whale Game

New Delhi: In the wake of recent suicide of Mumbai teen, allegedly caused by the online dare game 'Blue Whale'', Rajya Sabha members, on Thursday, demanded action against such potentially fatal games. "Rajya Sabha members today demanded action against online games like 'Blue Whale', alleging that it was linked to suicide of a young boy in Maharashtra last week" PTI reported. The issue was raised during the Zero Hour in the house by BJP MP Amar Shankar Sable. Sable referred to the suicide of Manpreet, which is allegedly the first case of Blue Whale suicide in India. Explaining the game, Sable, told that those who play the games are given instructions to watch horror movies, travel in train without ticket and later to commit suicide. He cited that over 130 suicides have been committed in countries like America, Russia, England and Italy. Sable said that Manpreet had been playing the game for 50 days. The Maharashtra Assembly also had a discussion over the issue, he informed. BJP MP, Vikas Mahatme exhorted the attention towards other such games which are highly interactive and addictive. In accord with his  BJP counterparts, Sanjay Seth of SP, suggested that such games should be removed from website. The Rajya Sabha demanded to ensure safety of young people from the game of Blue Whale. Blue Whale is an online dare game, where the players are instructed by administrators to carry out some queer tasks. After completing a set of fifty tasks, that include self mutilation and watching videos sent by the administrator, the player has to commit suicide. It is being said that those who enter the game, find it difficult to leave. Those who try to quit are threatened about their families. Last month, Manpreet, had committed suicide by jumping off a building, in Mumbai. His suicide is allegedly the first case of Blue Whale death in India. Police is probing the case.
