AAP Stages Walkout From Rajya Sabha After Chair Rejects Suspension Notice On Adani Row

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jadeep Dhankhar on Thursday rejected the suspension notice given by Aam Aadmi Party on the ongoing Adani-Hindenburg row, following which the AAP staged a walkout from the house. The notice was issued by AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s K. Keshav Rao under Rule 267. 

Singh said all the notices were rejected and alleged that the government was stalling the discussion on Adani row.

The notice stated that the public sector banks and LIC lost a huge amount of money in the ongoing Adani Group case following the Hindenburg report surfaced.

He had demanded suspension of business under rule 267 on Wednesday too, but the notice was rejected by the chair after which the AAP staged a walkout.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, also the leader of the opposition, launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government over the demand for a probe by the joint parliamentary committee in the Adani case even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seated in the House.

Kharge said, "There should be a joint parliamentary committee probe in the Adani row... when the government is not afraid of anything then constitute a JPC."

While speaking in Rajya Sabha during the debate on the Motion of Thanks on President’s address, Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of favaouring close friends. Without naming anybody, Kharge said that the wealth of a “close friend” of the Prime Minister “increased by 13 times in 2.5 years.”

"Wealth of one of the closest friends of PM Modi increased by 13 times in 2.5 years. In 2014 it was Rs 50,000 cr while in 2019 it became Rs 1 lakh crore. What magic happened that suddenly in two years assets worth Rs 12 lakh crores came, is it due to favour of friendship?", Kharge said in the Parliament.

Objecting to Kharge's statement, Jagdeep Dhankar said that the house does not allow members to level allegations against anybody.

However, Kharge continued speaking on the issue and said that the ruling party is "looting" the country and he has a full "right to speak the truth".
