Rajinikanth, Priyanka, Sania Mirza conferred with Padma awards

New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday honoured eminent personalities with the Padma awards at ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Among those honoured include south superstar Rajnikanth, actress Priyanka Chopa, tennis star Sania Mirza, bollywood singer Udit Narayan and others. South star Rajnikanth was given the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian honour. Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra was honoured with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour. Tennis star Sania Mirza recieved the Padma Bhushan. The Padma Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.
