Rajasthan: Video Of Pigs Licking Utensils At Govt-Run Subsidised Food Centre Goes Viral, BJP Attacks CM Gehlot

The Government of Rajasthan had established the Indira Rasoi Yojana in August 2020 with the objective of providing food to the underprivileged at a minimal cost.

New Delhi: A government-run canteen selling food at subsidised rates in Rajasthan has come under heavy criticism after a video showing pigs licking soiled utensils has gone viral on the social media.

Under Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s Indira Rasoi Yojana, the canteens, set up across the state during the Covid pandemic, serve a meal at a low rate of Rs 8. The viral video shows pigs licking utensils outside one such canteen located opposite MSJ college in Bharatpur.

After the video went viral on the social media, the municipality took cognizance of the incident and cancelled the organisation’s contract after finding irregularities.

According to a local municipal officer, teams have been formed to investigate the matter.

BJP’s social media and IT department spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawala, sharing the video, tweeted, “A video from Bharatpur In Rajasthan put out by many media organisations shows the reality of Congress’ schemes meant for the poor! Pigs eating from plates meant for the poor in Indira Rasoi centres! Not only is this unhygienic & disgusting but it is humiliating! Enquiry is a must.”

It is to be noted that the Government of Rajasthan had established the Indira Rasoi Yojana in August 2020 with the objective of providing food to the underprivileged at a minimal cost.

Notably, the Indira Rasoi Yojana aims to serve pure, fresh and nutritious food for Rs 8 to the underprivileged poor citizens of the state registered under the scheme.

A provision of Rs 100 crore per year has been allocated by the Rajasthan government under this scheme. It targets to benefit 1.34 lakhs people per day, according to the state government and 4.87 crore people every year.
