'Violence Went On For Months...': Rahul Gandhi On Starting Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra From Manipur

Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday shared his thoughts on starting the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur.

On third day of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday addressed the media at SCERT college ground camp site in Chiephobozou town, Nagaland and shared his thoughts why party started the march from violence-hit Manipur. He said, "We started from Manipur, there was a thought behind it as grave injustice has been done to Manipur. For the first time, violence went on for months in an Indian state and the PM & people of BJP didn't even visit it. We then went to Nagaland. PM had made a commitment to the people of Nagaland too. That commitment too was not met..."

He said, "This is Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Its goal is social justice, economic justice and political justice, about raising issues."

Elaborating on the key rally ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, he said, "I wanted this to be a Yatra on foot. But that would have been very long and there was not much time. So, this is a hybrid Yatra.."

Responding to a question on the Indo-Naga political issue, Rahul Gandhi said, "I have been speaking to quite a few Naga leaders and they are perplexed as to why no progress has been made. We are not even clear about what the Prime Minister envisioned in terms of a solution. It's a superficial document...It's not clear what exactly they mean...Clearly, there is a problem that needs resolution and that is a problem that will require conversation, listening to each other and working on implementing a solution."

"That is lacking as far as the PM is concerned...I do make the sense that PM promises things without thinking them through...I get this sense that people are disturbed that the Prime Minister's credibility is on the line and nothing has happened for 9 years," he added.

On Monday evening, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra reached Nagaland after spending two days in ethnic-violence-hit Manipur, where he engaged with civil society groups and individuals from diverse walks of life.

This morning, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi met with people in Kohima, Nagaland, as the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra resumed from here on the third day of its trip.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on his official X handle took a shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing the road conditions in Nagaland. "The third day of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will soon begin from Viswema near Kohima. Meanwhile, going from last night's campsite to the starting point of the journey via NH29 is a punishment in itself. The ground realities are far from the Prime Minister's claims," he said.

As the Congress' 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' arrived in Nagaland's Kohima on Monday evening, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated that a delegation of Naga HOHO comprising Naga groups from several states met with Rahul Gandhi.

They sent him a memorandum requesting that the Framework Agreement negotiated between the Centre and the NSCN-IM in 2015 be implemented.

Naga HOHO is an apex organisation with the authority to make critical decisions concerning Naga community members.
