West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sang a song in tribute to Rabindranath Tagore at Trinamool Bhavan in Kolkata on the occasion of Rabindranath Jayanti. In a first, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs, MLAs, and office bearers sang 'Tagore Songs' on Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary on Tuesday (May 9). The TMC supremo can be seen singing the 'Rabindra Sangeet' with state minister Indranil Sen in a video shared by news agency ANI.

The Bengal CM also tweeted: "I pay my humble tribute to Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary. His great contribution to literature and art has shaped our rich cultural heritage and inspired many across the globe. May his teachings and philosophy continue to guide us all".

Earlier in the day, Mamata stated that when someone mentions creating divisions, she will invoke Tagore's words. Her statement, made on the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, was a veiled attack on Union Minister Amit Shah, who had visited the state the day before and paid tributes to the eminent author.
