Protest Erupts In China After Student Found Dead At Education Centre

Protests erupted at a Chinese vocational school after a student's mysterious death, leading to clashes with police. The family members have accuse it of a cover-up.

In a rare protest outside a vocational school in China's northwestern Shaanxi province, a group of people clashed with police where a student died earlier in the month, according to videos on social media, which is verified by news agency Reuters.

As per details, the confrontation took place at the new campus of Pucheng County Vocational Education Center, however the exact date of the occurrence could not be ascertained from the videos.

A report from BBC states that when they contacted the publicity department of the Pucheng government, then a representative of theirs denied that there had been protests. Also, no answer was provided to them when they called the person who handles media queries.

However, according to Reuters, two of the videos showed police officers in riot gear pulling back from an angry protesters. The dissenters were seen throwing rods and other objects at them.

In another footage, a few police officers were seen grabbing a woman while another policeman was seen hitting a man with his baton as the latter approached him.

According to the details shared by the Pucheng authorities, student surnamed Dang died at the campus of Pucheng County Vocational Education Center after falling from a building. Dang was a third-year student at the education center.

A statement from the investigation team stated that Dang was found dead by another student at 3 a.m. on January 2. However, the team ruled out any crime and told the family members of the Dang about  their conclusion.

The BBC has reported that, prior to his dead body found by another student, Dang was engaged in an argument with a boy, which was later resolved by a school official. It was told that Dang fell from a height at school.

The school has been accused of trying to cover up the truth behind Dang's death. As per Reuters, the family of Dang was not allowed to check their ward's dead body for any injuries. There were also reports that the centre's surveillance system was also damaged. According to the family members, photos from Dang's mobile phone had also been deleted.
