Of late, several incidents of miscreants hurling stones at running trains have been reported across India. Many passengers have been injured in such incidents. Three passengers on a Mumbai local suburban train were injured on November 7 when they were hit by stones hurled by miscreants along the tracks near Kalwa.

On November 6, the loco pilot of a goods train was injured near Tamil Nadu’s Nagore railway station in a similar incident. Last month, two passengers on the Sampark Kranti Express sustained injuries after the train was pelted with stones in Kozhikode, Kerala.

Such miscreants haven’t spared even children. A 12-year-old girl on the Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Express was injured after being hit by a rock hurled at the moving train in Kannur. Railway authorities in that section took cognisance of such recurring incidents and apprehended a few schoolchildren for hurling stones at moving trains near Ullal station, reported OnManorama.

However, a concrete plan for curbing such incidents is yet to be formulated by the railway authorities.
