Pulwama attack: Omar Abdullah 'disappointed' as all-party meet didn't include call for calm

National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah Saturday expressed disappointment over the resolution passed in the all-party meet called by Central government.

Pulwama terror attack: Soon after the all-party meet conducted by the Central government on Saturday, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah Saturday expressed disappointment over the resolution passed in the meeting. Abdullah said that he was saddened for not including an appeal to maintain calm in the wake of violence in Jammu and tension in other states over the Pulwama terror attack. “Disappointed the resolution did not include a call for calm. Reports of violence in Jammu & tension in university/college campuses in some states, I would have expected an appeal for calm to have gone with the condemnation & condolences,” Abdullah said in a Twitter post. A unanimous resolution was passed in the all-party meet which was conducted in the Parliament premises which condemned the support given to terror activities from across the border. Called by the government and attended by senior leaders of all major parties including Congress, members extended support to the government in tackling the challenge. “India has displayed both firmness and resilience in dealing with these challenges. The entire nation speaks in one voice to express its determination to fight these challenges. Today, we stand united in solidarity with our security forces in fighting terrorism and in defending the unity and integrity of India,” the resolution said. The meeting called by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and was attended by Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Derek O' Brien of the Trinamool, Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena, Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference and Ram Vilas Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party among others. Post the Pulwama attack, which took lives of as many as 40 CRPF jawans in the suicide attack by a terrorist on February 14, Abdullah has been open and highly critical of the Central government and held it responsible for the incident. In a scathing attack on Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, Abdullah accused him of 'failing' to carry out his 'primary responsibility' and had asked him to visit those injured in the Pulwama terror attack and take stock of the situation. Accusing Malik of playing politics over the issue and trying to pass the buck, Abdullah urged him to be a statesman for once. He also criticised the Central government and said that it should never have been allowed to reach this point. “Pre-emptive measures should have been taken this morning knowing that it is Friday & congregations would assemble for prayers. I hope the situation is now defused without further loss,” the former J&K Chief Minister said.
