Was There A Conspiracy To Kill Pramod Mahajan? Daughter Poonam Casts Suspicion Again: 'Will Write To Amit Shah'

Former BJP MP Poonam Mahajan has suspected foul play in her father Pramod Mahajan's 2006 killing and said she will request an investigation from Union Minister Amit Shah.

Former Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mumbai, Poonam Mahajan has once again cast suspicion over the killing of her father and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan and said she will urge Union Minister Amit Shah to open a probe into it.

In an interview with India Today, Poonam suggested that the shootout that led to her father's death might have been driven by ulterior motives.

The former BJP MP said that back in 2006 when the incident took place, she was not in a position to raise her doubts but has always harboured suspicions over the circumstances leading to her father's death.

Now that the BJP is in power in both the Centre and the state, she said she will address letters to Amit Shah and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging a comprehensive investigation.

Notably, this is not the first time that Poonam has raised suspicions over the death of her father. In November 2022, she had rattled the political corridors in Mumbai as she asked who the mastermind behind the killing was. She said while she knew who killed her father, the then-UPA government did not find out the mastermind.

Pramod Mahajan, a former minister in the NDA government and a BJP stalwart was shot dead by his younger brother Pravin Mahajan on April 22, 2006, at his residence in Worli following a dispute. Pramod's brother-in-law Gopinath Munde rushed him to Hinduja Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries twelve days later on May 3.

After opening fire on his brother, Pravin surrendered at the Worli police station. However, during the trial, he pleaded not guilty.

The court held Pravin guilty of his brother's murder and was sentenced to life. While the complete order was kept under wraps, it had been established that Pravin killed his brother out of a grudge against him.

According to media reports, there was a dispute involving money between the two brothers. In 2010, Pravin died of a heart attack at his home in Mumbai on parole.
