New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, Guru Gobind Singh's sons who laid down their lives while defending their faith.

Their martyrdom day is observed as 'Veer Baal Diwas'. On the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh's birth anniversary on January 9 this year, the Prime Minister announced that December 26 will be observed as 'Veer Bal Diwas'.

PM Modi is participating in a celebration of 'Veer Bal Diwas' at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi. Here, PM Modi attended a 'Shabad Kirtan' performed by 300 'Baal Kirtanis'. He will then flag off a march-past led by 3,000 children in Delhi.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister tweeted, "On Veer Baal Diwas, we recall the courage of the Sahibzades and Mata Gujri Ji. We also remember the courage of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji."

The government is organising interactive and participative events all over the country to inform and educate the citizens, especially young children, about the story of exemplary courage of the 'sahibzades', the children of the last Sikh guru Gobind Singh, who laid down their lives while defending their faith, the Prime Minister's Office stated.

Essay writing, quiz competitions, and other activities will be organised in schools and colleges across the country. Digital exhibitions will be set up at public places like railway stations, petrol pumps and airports, among others, the statement added.
