PM Modi Launches AB-PMJAY SEHAT Scheme For J&K, 5 Lakh Health Insurance For 21 Lakh People
The PM-JAY, world’s largest health insurance/assurance scheme fully financed by the government, provides a cover of Rs 500,000 per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation across public and private empanelled hospitals in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) SEHAT scheme for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. PM said that he wanted to launch the scheme on Atal Bihar Vajpayee's birth anniversary as the late Prime Minister had a special affection for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

PM Modi also asserted BJP's victory in the DDC elections and thanked the people for coming forward and voting for the development of the valley's future. PM Modi also said that the elections of Jammu and Kashmir show the strength of democracy in the state. PM said that after the abrogation of Article 370, the polls were peacefully conducted in the valley and this shows the trust of people in the government.
PM Modi also launched an attack on the opposition and said that though they continuously criticize the Centre's efforts to help the people but they themselves fail to work towards the development of the citizens. PM cited the example of Puducherry which is ruled by Congress, where elections are not being conducted in spite of an order by the Supreme Court. PM Modi said, "Even after Supreme Court has directed that Panchayati and municipal elections should be conducted in Puducherry, the elections are not being conducted there. Those who keep on teaching me lessons on democracy are the ones who are running their govt thereThere was a time, we were a part of the Jammu and Kashmir government but we broke the alliance. Amit Shah lauds PM Modi's efforts towards the development of J&K
Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is in Assam for a 2-day visit, also participated in the inaugural ceremony via video conferencing and said, "PM Modi wishes to see speedy development in J&K and improvement in the standard of living of people. He presses that democracy should reach the grassroots levels and wishes peace & security for people of the state." Ami Shah said, "Nearly 229 govt hospitals & 35 private hospitals have been listed under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Under this scheme, people of J&K will be able to avail free medical facilities up to Rs 5 lakh."What is AB-PMJAY SEHAT scheme?
The scheme will benefit as many as 21 lakh eligible people on the basis of Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011. The beneficiaries will get the Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) as per the SECC 2011database. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the scheme would work in convergence with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). The PM-JAY, the world’s largest health insurance/assurance scheme fully financed by the government, provides a cover of Rs 500,000 per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation across public and private empanelled hospitals in India. The benefit of Rs 5,00,000 is on a family floater basis, which means that it can be used by one or all members of the family. It covers medical procedures such as oncology, cardiology, nephrology, etc, and up to three days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days post-hospitalization expenses such as diagnostics and medicines are also included in the scheme.
