PM Modi Leads by Example

Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a Sindoor sapling at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi. The sapling was a gift from women in Kutch, Gujarat, who had displayed remarkable courage during the 1971 war.

Sharing the moment on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi stated, "This plant will remain a strong symbol of the valour and inspiration of the women power of our country."

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister also planted a sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. This effort aligns with the 'Aravalli Green Wall' project, aiming to reforest the 700-km Aravalli range spanning Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi.

State Leaders Join the Green Movement

In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath planted a Harishankari sapling in Ayodhya's Pushp Vatika near Ramkatha Park. This act was part of the state's participation in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, with similar tree-planting drives organised across all districts.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled several environment-related initiatives at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar. Over the past year, Gujarat planted 17.48 crore saplings, with Kutch district leading by planting 2.95 lakh saplings. The state also launched a plastic waste management dashboard and inaugurated new environmental infrastructure.

In Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a target to plant 10 crore trees under the 'Green Maharashtra, Prosperous Maharashtra' campaign. He emphasised that tree plantation should become a people's movement, with the forest department leading efforts along highways and pilgrimage routes.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also planted a sapling under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Abhiyan' on World Environment Day.

Nationwide Campaigns Emphasise Collective Action

Building on the success of the initial phase in Haryana, the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign has expanded nationwide as 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0.' Launched by Prime Minister Modi, the initiative aims to plant 10 crore trees across India, combining environmental action with personal tributes. Each tree bears a personalized note in memory of a loved one, fostering lasting environmental and emotional impacts.

These concerted efforts by political leaders at both national and state levels highlight India's commitment to environmental stewardship and the promotion of sustainable practices.
