One killed in fresh Kashmir violence

Srinagar: A youth was killed when security forces opened fire at a protesting mob here on Monday evening, the state police said. A police officer told IANS that a group of men threw stones at security forces in Batamaloo area of Srinagar. "The security forces opened fire at protesters. One person, Irfan Ahmed, was killed and two others were injured," the police officer said. With the latest death, the toll in the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley over the past five weeks has now risen to 59. Thousands have been injured in clashes with security forces since the July 8 killing of popular rebel commander Burhan Wani that sparked violent protests across the valley
