'No politician can seek vote in the name of caste, creed, or religion' says SC
New Delhi: While hearing a case on Hindutva, the Supreme Court on Wednesday came out with very serious statements and orders barring political parties from seeking vote in the name of religion including Hindutva.
SC says “no politician can seek vote in the name of caste, creed, or religion, while hearing several petitions in the case”.
The Apex court also said, “Election is a secular exercise and thereby its way and process should be followed”.
SC further added that the relationship between man and God is an individual choice; state is forbidden to interfere in such an activity.
The seven-judge Constitution bench passed the judgement in the Hindutva case with a majority of 4-3 after hearing in detail arguments from various petitioners and respondents.
In the last hearing, the Constitutional bench of the apex court had said that it would not revisit the 1995-judgement, which defined Hindutva as 'a way of life'.
