New Delhi: Assuring there is “no need to panic” despite the huge spike in Covid-19 cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said his government does not intend to impose lockdown in the national capital as the situation is “under control” currently.

The Chief Minister, however, expressed concern over the huge spike in Covid cases in the national capital and said Delhi is expected to report over 22,000 cases on Sunday.

“Covid cases are rapidly rising. About 22,000 cases are expected in today’s health bulletin. Increasing cases concerning but need not be scared. I am saying so after analysing (comparing) data from the last wave,” Kejriwal said asserting the number of hospitalisation and death is far less than May 2021.

The Chief Minister, who was addressing a press conference here to inform about the Covid situation in Delhi, also said that he has tested negative and fully recovered from the coronavirus after remaining in home isolation for a week.

Delhi Covid status

Earlier on Saturday, seven more fatalities were recorded in Delhi due to Covid-19 as the city clocked 20,181 infections in a single day, while the positivity rate rose to 19.60 percent.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said the fatalities have been reported among those with comorbidities and the elderly.

This come as the national capital has been witnessing an uptick of daily Covid cases in the last few days, mainly triggered by the Omicron variant.
Around 1,586 people are admitted in the hospitals, accounting for 11.24 percent of 14,106 dedicated Covid beds, as per the data shared by the health department.
