NCP Workers Celebrate Outside Party Office As Core Panel Rejects Sharad Pawar's Resignation: Watch

NCP workers celebrated outside the party office in Mumbai after NCP's core committee had unanimously passed a proposal today and rejected Sharad Pawar's resignation.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers were seen celebrating outside the party office in Mumbai on Friday. NCP's core committee had unanimously passed a proposal today and rejected Sharad Pawar's resignation and requested him to continue as NCP chief.

NCP has decided to make the party president days after Sharad Pawar resigned from the party's top post. This comes after announcing his decision to resign as NCP president on Tuesday, Pawar said a committee of party leaders would decide on the election for his successor.

NCP leader Jayant Patil said, "The panel requested Sharad Pawar not to resign at the moment, he should stay till the Parliament elections. the committee also passed a resolution stating that Sharad Pawar will be continuing for the party chief post. He might have taken this decision to give a chance to new faces but we have requested him to stay on his post."
The members of the committee are Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, KK Sharma, PC Chacko, Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil, Supriya Sule, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, Anil Deshmukh, Rajesh Tope, Jitendra Awhad, Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde and Jaydev Gaikwad.

Praful Patel, Vice President, Nationalist Congress Party addressed a press conference after the NCP meet and said, "Sharad Pawar ji suddenly announced his resignation on 2 May. He appointed a committee of party leaders for further course of action and to elect a new president. Today we held a committee meeting."

"Pawar saheb took the decision without informing us. Considering all the demands of the party workers and the leader, we held a meeting today and the committee unanimously passed a resolution. The committee unanimously rejects this resignation and we request him to continue as party president," he added.

Praful Patel said, "You are a strong leader of the country, you had proposed that a new president should be elected, but the party has asked him to continue in his post."

"Country's leader Sharad Pawar ji had resigned from the post of President which is rejected by one vote and we request him to continue in the post and fulfill his responsibility. We have taken these decisions," he further said. On Thursday, Sharad Pawar met protesting party workers who have demanded that he reconsider his decision. Pawar said his decision to step down from the post was taken for the future of the party and to create a new leadership.
