MHA Declares National Liberation Front Of Tripura, All Tripura Tiger Force As 'Unlawful Associations'

The MHA declared National Liberation Front of Tripura and All Tripura Tiger Force and all their factions, wings and front organisations as "unlawful associations" under UAPA.

National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have been declared as unlawful association by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday. All the factions, wings and front organisations of both the groups have also been declared as unlawful associations under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, according to MHA's Tuesday notification. NLFT, ATTF along with all its factions, wings and front organisations have been declared as unlawful for period of five years with effect from October 3, it stated.

The ministry said that the two outfits have aim to “establish an independent nation by secession of Tripura from India through armed struggle in alliance with other armed secessionist organisations of Tripura and to incite indigenous people of Tripura for such secession.”

It also said that both the factions have been involved in violent and subversive activities, thereby undermining the authority of the government.

NLFT and ATTF have also been accused by the Centre of being engaged in violent and unlawful activities which are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India. 

“The Central Government is also of the opinion that the aforesaid activities of the NLFT and the ATTF are detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of India and that they are unlawful associations”, the notification stated. 

“Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), (hereinafter referred to as the said Act) the Central Government hereby declares the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) along with all its factions, wings and front organisations and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) along with all its factions, wings and front organisations as unlawful associations”, the said the ministry.
