'1 Crore Houses To Get 300 Units Of Free Electricity': Centre Announces 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana'
Union Minister Anurag Thakur said 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana' was announced under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday said the centre has approved 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana' under which one crore families will get 300 units of free electricity. "Today cabinet meeting was held under the leadership of PM Modi. 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana' has been approved today, one crore families will get 300 units of free electricity under this scheme," Thakur said.
Briefing media after the Union Cabinet meeting, Union Minister Thakur informed that approval has been given for the scheme for installing rooftop solar and providing free electricity up to 300 units every month for one crore households. Each household can get a subsidy of Rs 30,000 for 1 kw system and Rs 60,000 for 2 kw system, as per PTI.
Union Minister Thakur further said that the rooftop solar will be installed on all central government buildings by 2025.

"By 2025, rooftop solar will be installed on all central government buildings on a priority basis," the union minister said. He further said that the Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of International Big Cat Alliance and will provide one-time budgetary support of Rs150 crore for a period of five years.
"Cabinet approved the establishment of International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) with headquarters in India and also approved one-time budgetary support of Rs150 crore for a period of five years till 2027-28," he added. The key highlight of the scheme include central Financial Assistance (CFA) for Residential Rooftop Solar.
According to an official release, the scheme provides a CFA of 60 per cent of system cost for 2 kW systems and 40 per cent of additional system cost for systems between 2 to 3 kW capacity.
"The CFA will be capped at 3 kW. At current benchmark prices, this will mean Rs 30,000 subsidy for 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for 2 kW systems and Rs 78,000 for 3 kW systems or higher," it said. The release further stated that the households will apply for subsidy through the National Portal and will be able to select a suitable vendor for installing rooftop solar.
