Munawar Faruqui's Show Cancelled In Bengaluru For 2nd Time, BJYM Workers Create Ruckus In Hyderabad

Faruqui and his now-cancelled show met with backlash as workers of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a protest in Hyderabad who were later detained by the police.

New Delhi: Stand-up comedian Munwar Faruqui was once again denied permission by the Bengaluru police to host his show ‘Dongri To Nowhere’ in the city which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, reported news agency PTI. As per the police quoted by the news agency as saying, the event was cancelled as the organisers had not taken permission to organise it in the city.

According to the report, a complaint was lodged against the stand-up comedian and the organisers with Bengaluru Police Commissioner H.C. Pratap Reddy by a fringe outfit, Jai Shri Ram Sena.

In its complaint, the outfit alleged that Faruqui has hurt Hindu sentiments in his show by making insulting remarks against Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.

Faruqui and his now-cancelled show met with backlash as workers of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a protest in Hyderabad who were later detained by the police.

On Friday, BJP MLA from Telangana, T Raja Singh and four others were taken into preventive custody while they were on their way to a show by Faruqui in Hyderabad after the legislator and his supporters had threatened to burn down the venue of the stand-up comedian in the city.

The Goshamahal MP had warned that if the comedian goes ahead with the show, he would beat him up and burn down the venue. Singh was taken into custody from his residence in Mangalhat and would be released later, Police said.

This is not the first time that the comedian had been denied permission to perform in the city.
