Mumbai Resumes Vaccination Drive After 3 Days Amid Shortage
Mumbai's vaccination drive was halted for 3 days due to shortage of doses in the city.
Mumbai Corona Vaccination: After a break of 3 days, vaccination will be done again today at all vaccination centers in Mumbai. Mumbai received 85,000 doses of the vaccine late Saturday night. This dose is enough to vaccinate people on Monday. However, Mumbai has only enough doses to vaccinate people on Monday and Tuesday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is hopeful that the vaccine will be received from the Centre on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, after which the vaccination campaign will not have to be stopped for any day. However, the central government has said that the states still have about 1 crore 44 lakh vaccines left.
Hope to receive more vaccines
Today, from 9 am to 5 pm, people will be vaccinated at all centers in Mumbai. Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner of Public Health Department in BMC said, "We received 84,000 vaccine doses on Saturday night. This is enough for 2 days but it depends on the turn-out at the vaccination centres. That's why we are expecting more vaccine doses on Monday and Tuesday night."
283 BMC Vaccine Centers in Mumbai
Kakani added, "Mumbai can vaccinate around 1.5 lakh people daily. That's why we have demanded with the state government for the doses to vaccinate around 1 lakh people every day. Since the state government has not been getting enough vaccine doses from the Centre, Mumbai is receiving its share only on a stock basis." There are 401 vaccination centres in Mumbai, of which 283 are BMC centres. Apart from this, there 83 private hospitals with vaccination centres. At these centres, 50% of the people are vaccinated through the appointment and the other 50% get their vaccines through on spot walk-in registration.
