Mumbai Police Makes Wearing Seat Belts Must For Drivers, Passengers Of 4-Wheelers From Nov 1

In a statement, the city police traffic division instructed all motorists and vehicle owners to install seat belts in four-wheelers by November 1 or face prosecution.

The development comes after Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons, was killed in a car accident in Maharashtra's Palghar district last month, it was discovered during an investigation that the businessman, who was seated in the back seat of the Mercedes, was not using a seat belt.

Mistry died as a result of the impact of the crash after his vehicle collided with the divider of a bridge on the Surya river in the neighbouring district.
