Mission LiFE Launch: World Leaders Applaud India’s Role, Offers Support To Tackle Climate Change

In video messages, global leaders starting from UK Prime Minister Liz Truss to Estonia PM expressed their commitment to the mission.

New Delhi: Several world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron and United Kingdom Prime Minister Liz Truss applauded India for leading the Mission LiFE after it was launched on Thursday by Prime minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres.

The mission was launched at the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, Kevadia in Gujarat. In video messages, global leaders starting from UK Prime Minister Liz Truss to Estonia PM expressed their commitment to the mission.

Must work together to secure energy independence & protect economies: Liz Truss

“As democracies, we must work together to secure energy independence & protect economies. We're investing with partners like India to develop vital climate infra. I commend India's leadership in launching Mission Life, lets's keep leading the way," said UK PM Liz Truss on Mission LiFE, according to the news agency ANI.

French President Emmanuel Macron assures help

French President Emmanuel Macron in his message at the launch offered support for the mission and said, “At a time when our world is subject to increasing geopolitical tensions, we've to choose cooperation as no one can address global challenges, especially climate change alone.”

“France looks forward to working with India to make this initiative a success including in the perspective of the Indian presidency of G20 next year, Macron added.

Madagascar, Georgia & others on the mission

While President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina said she is convinced that LiFE could become one of the turning points in the fight against the climate crisis. “I thank India through its PM who is an inspiring leader in environmental protection, for bringing us together for this cause,” she added.

PM of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili also welcomed and extended support to this global initiative saying the timely introduced mission by PM Modi promotes an environmentally conscious lifestyle that focuses on the principle of mindful & deliberate utilisations.

While Estonia PM Kaja Kallas noted that the need for a collective response to address climate change is stronger than ever. “We're grateful to PM Modi for his leadership with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for launching' Mission LiFE'”, said Kallas, as reported by ANI.

“PM Modi's Mission LiFE could not have come at a more crucial juncture. Ill effects of climate crisis come at us with full force,” noted President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Mission LiFE aims will follow a three-pronged strategy for changing the collective approach towards sustainability. The mission will nudge individuals to practice simple yet effective environment-friendly actions in their daily lives (demand); secondly, enable industries and markets to respond swiftly to the changing demand (supply) and thirdly the mission will influence government and industrial policy to support both sustainable consumption and production (policy), according to the Prime Minister's Office statement.
