Missing Indian Student In US Found Dead, 11th Incident This Year

Arfath, originally from Nacharam, Hyderabad, arrived in the United States in May of last year to pursue a Masters in Information Technology at Cleveland University.

Mohammad Abdul Arfath, an Indian student who went missing last month, was discovered dead in Cleveland, Ohio, the Indian consulate in New York said on Tuesday. Mohammed Abdul Arfath had been missing for about three weeks, and the embassy had previously said that it was in contact with Abdul's family and was working with local law authorities to find him. The embassy said this morning that he had been discovered deceased.

Taking to X, India in New York stated: "Anguished to learn that Mohammed Abdul Arfath, for whom search operation was underway, was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio. Our deepest condolences to Mr Mohammed Arfath’s family. India in New York is in touch with local agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into Mr Mohammed Abdul Arfath’s death. We are extending all possible assistance to the bereaved family to transport his mortal remains to India."

This is the 11th Indian to die in the United States this year. The majority of them were students. These consecutive deaths have deeply shocked and worried Indian students residing in the US as well as their families back in India.
 
 
According to US data, over 260,000 Indian students migrated to the country during the 2022-2023 session, indicating a significant 35 percent increase from the previous session
