Mamata Banerjee in Delhi: Posters across national capital welcome West Bengal CM with 'democracy' jibe

The posters have caricatures of Mamata Banerjee along with different captions aimed at taking a dig at West Bengal CM for different political developments in her state in the recent past.

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is in the national capital today to join the opposition protest in Delhi at Jantar Mantar. Ahead of her visit, poster reading, ‘Welcome to Delhi, where democracy is alive and kicking, Didi’ popped up in the Central Delhi today. These posters were reportedly put up by an organisation named as Youth For Democracy. A number of posters have been installed at many places of the city taking a jibe at Banerjee ahead of her participation in the anti-BJP protest by the opposition parties. The posters have caricatures of Mamata Banerjee along with different captions aimed at taking a dig at West Bengal CM for different political developments in her state in the recent past.  'Didi, smile please, you are in a democracy', read another poster. Besides, a large numbers of such banners have also been installed at major areas of Jantar Mantar road, Bang Bhawan (Hally Road) and Windsor Palace Circle Area. ‘Didi, no one is going to prevent you from addressing people here’, reads the caption of another poster. Banerjee has emerged as one of the most formidable voices of the opposition and her visit to Delhi assumes significance after the protest she led in Kolkata over CBI's attempt to interrogate the city police chief in chit fund scam cases created a political storm. She has been at loggerheads with the ruling BJP, which is eyeing to garner at least 22 of 42 seats from Bengal in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Last month, Banerjee organised a rally of opposition parties in Kolkata, where she called to oust the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, claiming its "expiry date" has passed.
