Major Fire Breaks Out In Sonipat, Delhi Fire Services Called In

The reason for the fire has not been identified yet, however, a short circuit is being anticipated as the cause, an official from the Delhi fire services told news agency PTI.

New Delhi: A major fire broke out in a chemical factory in the Kundli area of Sonipat on late Sunday evening. On special request from Haryana, the Delhi fire services also sent their firefighters to Haryana, news agency ANI reported.

The reason for the fire has not been identified yet, however, a short circuit is being anticipated as the cause, an official from the Delhi fire services told news agency PTI.

As per a police official from Sonipat, Methanol and some other chemicals were kept in the factory.

The official confirmed that there was no one trapped inside the factory complex.

"About 50 fire tenders, many among them summoned from Sonipat and neighbouring Haryana districts as well as from Delhi are trying to bring the flames under control," he said.

However, this is not the first fire inside or near Delhi in the past few days. On Sunday, a fire broke out in Delhi’s Uphaar Cinema hall near the Green Park metro station.

Five fire engines were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire. However, no one was reported injured. The furniture kept inside the hall had caught fire causing the incident.

On Thursday afternoon another fire broke out in a restaurant in Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area. While the reason for the fire was not known, no injuries were reported.

The same day, another fire incident in a restaurant in Jamia Nagar left 13 injured. The reason for the fire was later identified as a cylinder blast. The injured were rushed to Holy Family hospital.
