1 Dead, 8 Injured After Clash Breaks Out Between 2 Groups In Maharashtra's Akola, 26 Arrested

Section 144 was imposed after a clash broke out between two groups in Maharashtra's Akola.

At least one person died, eight including two policemen were injured after a violent clash broke out between two groups over a minor dispute in the Old City police station area of Maharashtra’s Akola on Saturday. Section 144 was imposed in the city after the clashes. "Violent clash erupted between two groups over a minor dispute. Some Vehicles have been damaged by the violent mob. The situation is now under control," says Akola SP Sandeep Ghuge, as quoted by the news agency ANI. "Following the violent clashes in Akola, Section 144 has been imposed in the city," says Akola Collector Neema Arora, as quoted by ANI.

SP Akola, Sandeep Ghuge said that stones were pelted and vehicles were damaged. He also said that 26 people were detained following the clashes. "Tension prevailed between the two communities over hurting religious sentiments. Stone pelting happened, vehicles were also damaged. Heavy police deployment is there in the city. One was brought dead to Civil Hospital, but we are investigating it. As of now, 26 people detained. 8 including 2 policemen are injured and are out of danger," Sandeep Ghuge said, as quoted by ANI. 

"Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis was in touch with the DGP as well as the Akola Police since last night regarding the Akola incident. Now the situation is completely under control and there is peace. So far around 30 accused have been arrested and Deputy CM has also ordered a thorough investigation into the incident," Office of Deputy CM informed, as quoted by ANI. 

Reportedly, a large crowd marched on the Old City police station after a violent incident arose after a minor dispute. The violent mob targeted some vehicles in the area and the police have started using force to bring the situation under control, ANI reported citing official sources.

Akola SP Sandeep Ghuge said that the situation is currently under control. "Section 144 Prohibition Order has been imposed in Akola city on the order of District Collector," he said. This is the second such incident reported in Akola. A few days ago, there was a violent clash between two groups in Shankar Nagar locality of Akot File area.
