Lok Sabha Secretariat Suspends 8 Personnel For Parliament Security Lapse
The Lok Sabha Secretariat has suspended eight personnel for yesterday's security lapse incident at Parliament.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat has suspended eight personnel for yesterday's security lapse incident which triggered a massive scare on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament. According to sources, the suspended personnel have been identified as Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh, Anil, Pardeep, Vimitt ad Narende.
The Delhi Police has caught a total of six accused and charged them with stringent anti-terror law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), for breaching the security of Parliament. On the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, two men jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery. They leapt across benches and sprayed gas from the canisters they were carrying, triggering a massive scare.
Meanwhile, on Thursday strict measures were put in place around the Parliament building and thorough checking was being done by the police, staff and Parliament security for those entering the complex. The security breach also compelled Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla to stop the issuance of visitor passes by MPs.
The next day, Security officials were also deployed outside the Transport Bhavan at a distance of several metres from the Parliament complex and ensured that nobody went beyond the barricades at the checking points. Deployment of security personnel could also be seen near the Krishi Bhavan where the agriculture ministry along with other government departments is lodged.
"Ministry officials, including the ministers' private secretaries and other staff, were stopped from entering Parliament through the Makar Dwar as it is only meant for the entry of the MPs. They were asked to enter the building through the Shardul Dwar," a Parliament official told PTI.
