Kerala To Observe Weekend Lockdown On July 17 -18 As Covid Cases Rise - Check Guidelines

Thiruvananthapuram: In wake of resurgence in Covid-19 cases in Kerala, the state government has decided not to do away with the weekend lockdown on Saturday and Sunday, and the restrictions will come into effect from July 15 at 12 am. The state will observe complete lockdown on July 17 and 18.
How’s the state going about restrictions?
The relaxations and restrictions in the state will be decided upon the categorisation of local bodies on the basis of Test Positivity Rate (TPR).
Those areas which comes under category 'A' (TPR rate up to 5 per cent), all shops and business establishments will remain open on all days except during weekend lockdown.
Under the 'B' category which has TPR rate up to 10 per cent, the shops are allowed to sell essential items on all days, while other non-essential item shops would remain open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday till 8 pm.
While those falling under 'C' category with TPR rate up to 15 per cent, the shops which sell essential provisions will remain open on all days while other shops are allowed to open only on Friday.
Lastly, under 'D' category (TPR rate above 15 per cent), only those shops selling essential provisions will be allowed to open.
Shops in category 'A', 'B' and 'C' LSGIs can function till 8 pm. Also, note that banks will remain open for public for five days in a week. July 17 will be a holiday for banks and other financial institutions.
The state has witnessed rise in infection with 14,539 fresh cases registered on Tuesday and 124 deaths, taking the total infection count to 30,87,673 and the death toll to 14,810. The state has currently 196 local self government bodies, where the TPR is over 15 per cent.
The resurgent in infection has come in Kerala at a time when other states that had reported a massive surge of infections and casualties have seen a significant drop in cases.
