Kerala To Experience Moderate Rainfall For Next 3 Days, IMD Issues Yellow Alert

The IMD forecasts increased rainfall from Tuesday, issuing yellow alerts for heavy rain in several districts on June 10 and 11.

Kerala is set to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next three days, as weak westerly winds continue to prevail across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin issued on Saturday, June 7, 2025, light to moderate westerly and northwesterly winds are active in the lower tropospheric levels over Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Southwest Monsoon In Kerala

So far, the southwest monsoon has remained weak over Kerala. Rain was recorded in a few areas of the state, while Lakshadweep experienced dry conditions. On Friday, the major rainfall recorded included 2 cm in Kottayam and 1 cm each in Enamakkal (Thrissur district), Venkurinji AWS (Pathanamthitta district), Vaikkom AWS (Kottayam district), and Kunnamkulam AWS (Thrissur district).

These prevailing wind patterns are likely to bring sporadic showers across the region in the short term. However, a significant shift in weather conditions is anticipated from Tuesday, June 10, as changes in wind patterns and rainfall intensity are expected, as per a report on The Hindu. The IMD is closely monitoring the developments, with further updates likely in the coming days.

Kerala Yellow Alert

Looking ahead, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall (7–11 cm in 24 hours) in specific districts. On Day 4 (June 10), one or two places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam districts are likely to experience heavy rain. On Day 5 (June 11), the alert extends to Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kozhikode districts.

Additionally, heavy (7–11 cm) to very heavy (12–20 cm) rainfall is expected to occur at isolated places across Kerala on June 13. From June 10 to 12, isolated instances of heavy rainfall are also likely to affect several parts of the state.
