Kashmir: Army Helps Pregnant Woman In Critical Condition Reach Medics Amid Heavy Snowfall, Mother-Child Doing Well

The woman was in critical condition when the distress call was made to the Indian Army who evacuated her on time.

New Delhi: The Indian Army conducted an emergency rescue of a pregnant woman in critical condition and her husband on Wednesday night after the army received a distress call. Mariyam Begum and her husband Bashir Ahmed Mugal, residents of Jhakadnaka Sarkuli Village of Kalaroos Block, were holed in due to heavy snow and risky road conditions.

Around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, the Indian Army received a distress call from family members, the Sarpanch of Sarkuli Village and the District Development Council (DDC) for the urgent rescue and medical evacuation of the pregnant woman who was in critical condition.

The couple tried to find other forms of transportation and even requested neighbours to help drive Mariyam Begum to the hospital. However, because of the heavy snowfall, which made the roads slippery, and low visibility conditions locals were not able to help.

Realising the severity of the situation, the rescue team and medics from Kalaroos COB immediately responded to the distress call. Despite the heavy snow and sleet on the road, the rescue team reached the location on time and the patient was safely evacuated. She was taken to a PHC in Kalaroos. The medical team at the PHC were already on standby to receive the patient and attended to her immediately.

The family and doctors thanked the Army for their swift action and timely assistance which saved the lives of the mother and her newborn child.
