Karnataka Lockdown: What's Open And What Will Remain Closed?

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday announced to impose strict restrictions for 14 days in order to control the spread of the deadly virus.

As the second Covid wave has ravaged Karnataka, state Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that the entire state including Bengaluru city will go for a full lockdown for starting from April 27, 9 pm till May 9th in a bid to contain the raging COVID-19 crisis.

The state especially the capital Bengaluru is reeling under a crisis of ventilator and ICU beds with patients needing to wait for hours to get admitted to hospitals.

 Karnataka has more than 1.6 lakh active cases with an overwhelming majority in Bengaluru.  In light of this, some members of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) which held its 99th meeting on April 24 in Bengaluru had advised for a two-week-long down.

What's Open And What Will Remain Shut?

  • The Yediyurappa government said that the state will be under complete lockdown for 14 days therefore all shops, malls, cinema halls, restaurants will remain shut.
  • Stores selling essential items will remain open for people only from 6 am to 10 am, the Chief Minister confirmed.
  • Manufacturing sector constructions, agricultural activities will be allowed but garment factories are prohibited.
  • Public transportation will not function. Goods can be transported from one state to another.
  • Takeaway from restaurants and home delivery of alcohol has been allowed.

Karnataka reported another biggest single-day spike of 34,804 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total caseload to 13.39 lakh, while 143 related fatalities pushed the toll to 14,426, the Health Department said on Sunday. Bengaluru alone registered for 20,733 cases.

The separate guidelines will be issued by the government later in the day.
