Joshimath Land Subsidence: Chamoli Administration Directs Immediate Deployment Of NDRF

A team of professionals, comprising administration and State Disaster Management officials, performed a door-to-door survey in the regions impacted by ground subsidence in Uttarakhand's Joshimath.

Following reports of land subsidence in Joshimath, the Chamoli district administration directed the quick deployment of a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team to the town on Friday, news agency ANI reported.

A team of professionals, comprising administration and State Disaster Management officials, performed a door-to-door survey in the regions impacted by ground subsidence in Uttarakhand's Joshimath.

The door-to-door survey in Joshimath was launched by Garhwal Commissioner Sushil Kumar and Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha.

Out of the 561 establishments, 153 are located in the Ravigram ward, 127 in Gandhinagar, 28 in Marwadi, 24 in the Lower Bazaar ward, 52 in Singhdhar, 71 in Manohar Bagh, and 29 in the Upper Bazaar ward. According to a statement from the Chamoli district government, there were 27 reports of cracks in the Sunil ward and 50 in Parsari.

The Disaster Management Act of 2005 also placed restrictions on Hotel View and Malari Inn's activities up to further instructions.

Nine households in all were uprooted on Thursday; they included four families from the Joshimath Municipal Corporation, one family from the Gurudwara Joshimath, one family from the Tourist Hostel, one family from Manohar Bagh, and other families.

So far, 38 families in all have had to relocate.

A high-level conference will be held in Dehradun this evening, according to remarks made on Friday by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Speaking with ANI, CM Dhami stated: “I will hold a high-level meeting with top officials in Dehradun this evening regarding landslides in Joshimath and cracks in houses."

Along with representatives from the Home, Irrigation, and Disaster Management departments, Commissioner Garhwal Mandal and District Magistrate Chamoli will attend the meeting.

Dhami further mentioned that he will travel to Joshimath on Saturday to assess the situation.

“A team from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also been sent there,” he added.

Notably, Joshimath Municipal Chairman Shailendra Pawar stated that massive fractures occurred in the houses in the Marwadi ward owing to a flow of water from within the ground.

The Chamoli district government urged Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to be ready to house impacted residents relocating from Uttarakhand's Joshimath owing to land subsidence on Thursday.
