Admission begins for JNU's new engineering school, Here is all you need to know

The decision to open the school for aspirants was taken in the 145th Academic Council meeting held on May 18.

New Delhi:  The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday begun admission for its newly-established engineering school, which has two courses with 50 seats each. "Jawaharlal Nehru University has begun the process of admissions into its youngest School of Engineering, established earlier this year," the varsity's Rector I said in statement. The decision to open the school for aspirants was taken in the 145th Academic Council meeting held on May 18. Started with courses in 'Computer Science Engineering' and 'Electronics and Communications' for now, the school will admit students through Joint Seat Allocation Authority on the basis of their JEE (Mains) rank. The students will be admitted for the five-year dual degree programme of B.Tech. and M.Tech./M.S. degree, with specialisation in Social Science/Humanities/Science/Technology. "The unique feature of the Engineering School at JNU will be its multi-disciplinary approach to imparting education to engineering graduates. "The new School of Engineering is one of the major initiatives of the university during the last two years. UGC has accepted the proposal and already allocated seed money for construction of infrastructure for JNU's School of Engineering, and the process of constructing the School building in the campus has begun with a great speed," the university statement said. The classes for the new courses will commence from Monsoon semester starting in July. Talking to media earlier, an official had said that a total of Rs 180 crore was allocated to the university for two new schools, the other being School of Management and Entrepreneurship. He had added that out of the total allocation, Rs 23 crore had already been released for the engineering school.
