Jailed Ex-Maharashtra Minister Anil Deshmukh Hospitalised After He Complains Of High Blood Pressure, Chest Pain

Former Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh was suffering from "uncontrolled high blood pressure and chest pain," and was admitted to an ICU at the civic-run KEM Hospital in Mumbai.

New Delhi: Former minister in the Maharashtra cabinet, Anil Deshmukh who is currently in judicial custody, was admitted to a hospital after he complained of high blood pressure and chest pain, said his aide on Friday, reported news agency PTI. 

The 72- year old former minister was suffering from "uncontrolled high blood pressure and chest pain," and was admitted to an ICU at the civic-run KEM Hospital here for Stress Thallium Heart Test on May 25, he said.

Deshmukh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case in November 2021. 

Earlier this month, a plea by Deshmukh — seeking permission to undergo a shoulder surgery at a private hospital — was rejected by the court. He could get the medical procedure done at the state-run JJ Hospital in the city, the court had said, reported the news agency. 

Earlier last month, the Central Bureau of Investigation had taken the former minister in its custody after the Bombay High Court had refused to hear Deshmukh’s plea which had challenged a special court order allowing the CBI to take him into custody in connection with the case. 

Along with Deshmukh, his two former aides — Sanjeev Palande and Kundan Shinde — were also in judicial custody.  

Deshmukh, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), stepped down as home minister after former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh accused him of corruption, an allegation which Deshmukh had denied. The CBI subsequently booked him in a corruption case.
