New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday directed the Delhi Police to take strict action against those involved in the Jahangirpuri violence on Hanuman Jayanti, PTI reported.

Clashes broke out during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in the national capital's Jahangirpuri area on Saturday in which eight policemen and a civilian were injured.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said 23 people belonging to two different communities were arrested so far in connection with the violence.
The investigation into the clashes has been handed over to the Crime Branch and 14 teams have been formed to take it forward.
An FIR was registered on Saturday under Indian Penal Code sections, including 307 (attempt to murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 147 (rioting), and provisions of the Arms Act in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man who was seen opening fire during the violence in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area was arrested. The accused has been identified as Sonu alias Imam alias Yunus, a resident of C-Block in Jahangirpuri, police said.
The prime accused in the violence have been identified as Ansar and Aslam. They have been sent to one-day police custody by a local court on Monday, reported news agency ANI.
A large number of security personnel, including those from the anti-riot force, were deployed in the violence-hit areas of Jahangirpuri on Monday.
Over 500 police officers and six more police companies have been stationed in the region around the clock, PTI quoted a senior official as saying.
