Indian Army Treks On Frozen River To Set Up Medical Camp For Isolated Village In Zanskar Valley | SEE PICS

New Delhi: A Medical Camp was organised for the people of Nyerak village on January 30 and 31. It was conducted under the aegis of the Fire and Fury Corps. The noteworthy thing about this medical camp is that the army personnel have to walk on the frozen Zanskar river which is the only route to reach the village in winters.

The Nyerak village is located in the middle of the Zanskar river valley at 12,000 feet. During winters, the village remains entirely cut off from the mainland for a long time. The only route to reach the village is by crossing the frozen Zanskar River involving a 36 km trek.

The Fire and Fury Corps team was led by Brigadier Manas Chatterjee, comprising 22 Officers, four JCOs, and 14 ORs along with the medical staff. The team carried an adequate stock of medicines and basic diagnostic facilities along with them for the two-day camp.

The camp received an overwhelming response from the villagers who thanked the Fire and Fury Corps for their generous effort for the people. The Nyerak village is usually deprived of basic health facilities during the winters as the area remains cut off.
