India Records Over 4.25 Lakh Coronavirus Cases, Death Toll Reaches 13,699, Recovery Rate Improves To 55.8%

The country recorded 9,440 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the recovery rate from 55.5% to 55.8%

New Delhi: With the daily surge in numbers India recorded 14,821 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours taking the total number of infections over 4.25 lakhs. The number of active cases in the country is at 1,74387 while 13,699 people have lost their lives to the virus. The recovery rate of the country stands at 55.8% while the mortality rate is at 3.2% with 445 deaths in the last 24 hours. ALSO READ|Maharashtra's Jolt To China! The state recorded 3870 cases while 65,744 people have recovered from the disease till now. The national capital has surpassed Tamil Nadu and now is in second place with 59,744 total cases while 2175 people have succumbed to the virus. In the wake of increasing numbers, the Delhi government on Sunday directed all district magistrates to ensure that the daily reported cases of coronavirus are verified within 24 hours and scale up their operations by constituting additional surveillance teams if needed. The Delhi government on Saturday issued a revised order stating that coronavirus patients who do not have any comorbidities or require hospitalisation could opt for home isolation. In a State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) meeting on Saturday, it was decided that the home quarantine system will continue. Tamil Nadu has also inched closer to Maharashtra and Delhi nearing 60k cases in the state. 32,754 people have recovered from the virus in the state. The Tamil Nadu government tested 31,401 people on Sunday alone, taking the overall figures of testing in the state to 8.92 lakh. It was the second consecutive day during which the testing of people surpassed 30,000-mark. Global Update The World Health Organization on Sunday reported the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases by its count, at more than 183,000 new cases in the latest 24 hours. The UN health agency said Brazil led the way with 54,771 cases tallied and the U.S. next at 36,617.
