India Records Nearly 98K Coronavirus Cases In 2 days; Human-Trial Of Vaccine Covaxin Begins At AIIMS Delhi
For the third day in a row, the number of COVID-19 recoveries in a 24-hour span saw another record high, with 34,602 patients having recuperated pushing the recovery rate to 63.45%, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.
Coronavirus Update: India witnessed a single day surge of 48,916 positive cases and 757 deaths, according to the data released by the Health Ministry. The total COVID-19 positive cases now stand at 13,36,861 including 4,56,071 active cases, 8,49,431 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 31,358 deaths.

In 2 days India has recorded nearly 98,000 fresh COVID cases. The total number of tests done on July 24 stands at 4,20,898 while the overall tally of tests done has surpassed 1.58 crore.
At least half of India’s population is under various types of lockdowns — full, partial, or weekend. States such as Bihar, Sikkim, Nagaland are under a complete lockdown; West Bengal has announced a two-day lockdown every week, and states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh have opted for weekend lockdowns.
Tamil Nadu recorded its biggest single-day spike of 6,785 which took its tally to 199,749. Maharashtra's Covid-19 tally has risen to 357,117, with 9,615 fresh cases on Friday.
Mumbai sees one-day spike of 1,062 COVID-19 cases; 54 more die
The COVID-19 case count in Mumbai mounted to 1,06,891 after 1,062 people tested positive for the infection on Friday, the civic body said. The death toll rose to 5,981 after 54 patients succumbed to the infection, it said. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that the number of recovered persons in the city increased to 78,260 after 1,158 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in the city has gone up to 73 per cent. According to the BMC, the city currently has 22,647 active patients and 1,051 suspected ones have been admitted to hospitals.
AIIMS Delhi administers the first dose of Covaxin to 30-year-old male
AIIMS Delhi on Friday administered the first dose of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin to a 30-year-old male. The subject will be monitored for two weeks after which he will be given the second dose. The Covid-19 tally in India rose to 12,87,945 on Friday after 49,311 fresh cases were reported within a span of 24 hours. Covaxin is India's Covid-19 vaccine candidate developed by Bharat Biotech India Limited (BBIL) in collaboration with the National Institute of Virology (NIV).
Global Status
Worldometer recorded 288,254 new cases worldwide in the past 24 hours. As many as 15,941,806 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While more than 9,715,983 have recovered, 641,868 have died so far. The US on Friday recorded 77,885 new cases and Brazil 58,249.
