Heat Wave Continues to Affect North India, Monsoon Late By Two Weeks

IMD Monsoon Updates: IMD has predicted normal rains with the arrival of monsoon in the month of July. The Department has also warned that the agricultural sector may get affected.

As per IMD monsoon updates people are expected to get some relief from the heat waves in July. The India Meteorological Department has predicted 'below normal' to 'normal' rainfall in many areas of Northwest India during July. The Department added that on Thursday there may be rain in some parts of South Peninsula, Central, East and Northeast India. Rainfall in July is likely to be between 94 to 106%.

At the same time, in July, there is a possibility of heavy rains in some parts of the country, in the peninsular, and the plains. According to the IMD, the sea surface temperature conditions in the Pacific and the Indian Ocean are known to have a strong influence on the Indian monsoon, so the Department is carefully monitoring the development of sea surface conditions over the ocean basins. Director-General M Mohapatra of IMD has said that there is still a high probability of a normal monsoon in the country in July.

No rainfall at the end of June

According to Mohapatra, till June 19, the monsoon had arrived in most parts of the country except some parts of North-West India, including Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, and from June 26, the flow of monsoon started weakening. He said that the monsoon coverage has come down significantly in the last 2 days and there is no possibility of monsoon in the next 7 to 10 days.

Delayed monsoon to affect the agriculture sector

Mohapatra has told that there is a possibility of monsoon from July 11 or 12. At the same time, the IMD warned that weak monsoon conditions will affect agricultural activities especially sowing and transplantation of crops in many parts of the country.
